- MGTO 329PBusiness Case Analysis2 Credit(s)DescriptionThis course takes a practical and applied approach to the development of case analysis skills. It is designed to prepare students to represent HKUST at international business case competitions. The course consists of a series of multi-disciplinary cases that will be analyzed by student teams. After analysis, the teams will present the cases to their classmates and to the faculty member who will provide feedback. There will be no final examination for this course. Grades will be given based on the relative performance of groups and individuals in the classroom. Students must obtain approval from the course instructor for enrolling in the course. - MGTO 329QLeadership and Entrepreneurship4 Credit(s)DescriptionWhen one looks at captains of industry like Messrs. Li Ka Shing, Jimmy Lai, Dr. Victor Fung, Stan Shih ... aside from their `inborn' business acumen and entrepreneurship, their leadership stands out. Can one become an entrepreneur without displaying some sort of leadership traits or vice versa. Thus, the aim of this course is to take students into the unique insight and anatomy of both as well as develop and unleash their capability in the interplay of this twin behavioral traits. This special course consists of two parts. The first examine the anatomy of leadership in modern organizations with a highlight on the interplay between leadership and entrepreneurship. Participants will also be instilled with the salient techniques and approaches critical to the moulding of a 21st century entrepreneur. The second part wil then follow through with the impairing of methodologies and approaches for evaluating new ventures linked to high growth industries such as ICT, E-commerce, leisure & entertainment, media, medical, telecommunication & service sector.
